ATTENTION ALL FAMILIES OF DIVERSE LEARNERS:

The Plano Council of PTAs has established the SAGE committee to provide an opportunity for families of students who learn differently to share resources and friendship. If you or someone you know loves a child who participates in Special Education, the Gifted and Talented programs, or simply struggles with Learning Differences, here is your chance to come together with others for the benefit of all.

Join your local PTA and ask about the SAGE committee,

or visit our website at http://www.planopta.org/sage.htm

or e-mail us at  sage@planopta.org

What Is SAGE?

In August of this year (2004) the Plano ISD Council of PTAs created the Special and Gifted Education committee commonly referred to as SAGE.  The purpose of SAGE is to provide education, support and communication to the families of children with special needs, accounting for approximately 25% of the students in Plano ISD.  Whatever the challenge from ADHD to giftedness to Down’s Syndrome all of these students have special needs and that translates into families who have special needs.

SAGE plans to provide educational opportunities for the families, educators and peers of our special needs children.  Currently the committee is facilitating the formation of support groups for parents.  The SAGE community resource page within the Council website is filled with copious amounts of information with more to come.  In the coming weeks the committee will be working with PTA presidents across the district to facilitate the establishment of SAGE chairs on each local unit board.

Please explore our web pages at www.planopta.org/sage.htm for more information.  There you will find a calendar of events, information on support groups, upcoming educational opportunities, and community resources.
